Choosing your 9th grade courses at TJHSST
This webpage has been created to assist incoming TJHSST 9th graders with selecting their courses for the 9th grade year.
After students have received their @tjhsst.edu accounts students will need to login to the Incoming Student Course Selector to select their courses.
All students will take the following courses as incoming TJHSST 9th graders:
- Biology 1
- Required component of the IBET program
- English 9
- Required component of the IBET program
- Design & Technology
- Required component of the IBET program
- Health & PE 9
- This course and all diploma requirements must be taken during the school day. Online courses can be taken online during 1st period - please consult the TJHSST Online Course Policy for additional details and parental responsibilities when taking an online course.
- World Language
- Students may either continue studying the world language they studied in middle school or may choose to start a new language in one of the seven world lanaguaes offered at TJHSST (French, German, Latin, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, or Japanese).
- Math
- Students will be placed into math based on the highest level of math they have completed in middle school.
- Students who have completed Algebra 1 will be placed into TJHSST Research Statistics 1 & TJHSST Math 1
- Students who have completed Geometry will be placed into TJHSST Research Statistics 1 & TJHSST Math 3
- Students who have completed Algebra 2 (all variations) will be placed into TJHSST Research Statistics 1 & TJHSST Math 4
- Students who have completed Precalculus (all variations) will be placed into TJHSST Research Statistics 1 & TJHSST Research Statistics 2
- Students who have completed Calculus (all variations) will be individually placed in math as deemed appropriate by the school's math department and administration.
- Students will be placed into math based on the highest level of math they have completed in middle school.
- One elective
- Incoming 9th graders have a variety of elective options. These include Journalism (newspaper), Photojournalism (yearbook), the Performing Arts (music & theater), Visual Arts (photography & art), Ancient & Classical Civilizations, and Computer Science.
- Online courses (aka "ninth" courses)
- Ninth courses are optional. They are NOT required whatsoever.

- Please be aware that online courses taken beyond the regular seven period day carry a fee and must be completed outside the regular school day.
