Summer School Course Guide

Who

Currently enrolled TJHSST students and incoming freshmen/froshmores.

NOTE: Incoming freshmen may not register for TJ Summer School until they register for TJ at Freshman Registration Night, Wednesday, April 19.

8:00 AM to 3:15 PM

Tuition

$820 for full-year courses

$420 for semester courses

Transportation

$275 for full-year courses

$138 for semester courses

Pickup and drop-off times will be available on the ACE website when you register.

All students are expected to provide their own transportation to a boarding site in Fairfax County and will need to indicate the boarding site when registering for transportation.

Refunds

Refunds are handled online through ACE. A direct link will be posted here when available.

Attendance Requirement

Students are required to attend class daily for the duration of the entire course.

Attendance is mandatory to receive credit.
  • Students taking full-year classes will be automatically withdrawn if they are absent for more than 2 days (780 minutes), for any reason.
  • Students taking semester courses (see above) will be automatically withdrawn if they are absent for more than 1 day (390 minutes), for any reason.
  • Attendance is recorded to the minute and all absences/tardies are cumulative.

Registration

Registration is open Tuesday, March 7–Friday, May 26, 2017 and is on a first-come, first-served basis. When a course is full, then registration is closed for that course.

Registration is online only through ACE. No other types of registration will be accepted.

Additional Information

  • TJ renovation is complete so this year summer school moves back to TJ!
  • Students may only take one course (or two consecutive semester courses) in the summer.

Thomas Jefferson Middle School Technology Institute

The Institute will be held Monday, July 10–Friday, August 4 at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. Students entering 8th or 9th grade during the 2017-18 school year (currently in 7th or 8th grade) are introduced to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through week-long sessions that allow them to explore a STEM topic of interest. Registration is open Monday, March 13–Friday, April 28, 2017.

Thomas Jefferson High School Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Summer Institute

High School students will have the opportunity to participate in variety of courses that capture students’ interest in Science, Engineering, and  Math.  Courses are offered to current 9th – 11th graders, open to any student in in the region and will run from July10 – July 28.  One week, two week, and three week course options are available.  Courses are designed to be a starting point for students interested in completing a research project for Regeneron STS Siemens, Science Fair, or VJAS.  Also, courses will teach students a skill set or about unique TJHSST equipment that could help them with research.   All courses will offer unique experiences based on scientific and engineering concepts. Students will be engaged in critical thinking, problem solving, and growth in curiosity. Registration is open March 15 - May 28, 2017.
