What is the school policy regarding a student taking an online course?
Students are expected to take all of the diploma required coursework during the regular school day. If a student would like to take an eighth course they may request to take an elective course via the FCPS Online Campus at their own expense. All requests must be pre-approved by Brandon Kosatka (bpkosatka@fcps.edu), Director of Student Services.
May I take an online course as one of my regularly scheduled seven classes?
Yes. Due to recent approval by the superintendent and School Board, students will have the option to take one of their courses online for their first or last class if they can provide their own transportation. In order to maintain the integrity of the TJ curriculum and preparation for subsequent courses, students should restrict their selection to nonscience/technology electives or economics/personal finance (intended for the class of 2015 and beyond). The new option will give students a chance to take electives not available at TJ, as well as provide flexibility in their schedules.
Can teamed classed be taken online?
No, not at this time.
May I take a course online that is listed as a prerequisite for subsequent courses?
No, not at this time.
Are the online courses weighted?
Those courses listed as honors or AP are weighted consistenly with FCPS weighting practices.
How are online courses noted on the transcript?
Upon completion, the final marks earned via the FCPS Online Campus are noted as such on the student's transcript.
What non-TJHSST courses will satisfy the 4th Social Studies Requirement?
Currently, the only online course that will fulfill the 4th Social Studies requirement is World History & Geography 1 (1 credit).
Can I take more than one course online at the same time?
Yes. A student may take one of their regularly scheduled classes via the FCPS Online Campus and then may also take an eighth course via the FCPS Online Campus at their own expense and with permission from Brandon Kosatka (bpkosatka@fcps.edu), Director of Student Services.
