Director

Mr. Paul Kosek

Founded

2010

Description

The Communication Systems Lab focuses on the exploration of algorithms and processes behind audio, video, and the web. The Lab aims to peel away the oter layers from current communications technology and expose the inner workings behind it. For example, students learn the algorithms behind what happens when they add reverb to a mix in the Audacity music program or choose a "lower quality" setting when YouTube slows down, and they dissect the science behind Android phones and Bluetooth technology.

Projects

  • Sound Localization Signal Processing
  • Gesture Detection Image Processing
  • EMG Signal Amplification and Conditioning
  • Adaptive Bluetooth Peripheral Communication

Specialized
Equipment

  • 16 Electronics Workstations, each with a full complement of power supplies, signal generators, and measurement equipment
  • Extensive inventory of discrete and IC electronic components for circuit breadboarding
  • USRP Software Radios
  • DM6437 Digital Signal Processing Boards
